Rapid antigen test
Rapid antigen tests are able to deliver a faster diagnostic response to SARS-CoV-2 than RT-PCR tests. The higher the viral load in a given symptomatic patient’s sample, the higher the probability that the antigen test will give a positive result. The lower the viral load, the higher the chance of missing a SARS-CoV-2 infection through an antigen test by way of a false negative result. RT-PCR tests remain the undisputed gold standard for diagnosing COVID-19.
Target groups
- Symptomatic patients within four days of the onset of symptoms
- People who need a quick result
